![]() ![]() On top of that, late substitutions are situational, so CAM isn’t a position you bring more than 2 or 3 players for. There is zero reason to believe Ferreira immediately jumps the B and C team midfielders for that role, other than speculation. ![]() A two striker system would definitely suit Ferreira‘s skillset, I will admit, but since that is even more unlikely to happen everyone is instead saying he should play CAM.Īnd you have him at 4th in the depth chart at striker and 3rd at mid, but you‘re misrepresenting the depth chart greatly. Even if he was developing that skillset with his club (and he isn’t) it would be very challenging to stand out there on national team. CAM is also a position that gets more demanding the better your teammates are. His lack of success against stronger opponents does not inspire confidence that he would execute at a more technical position. However he’s been a huge success for his club as a striker. I keep seeing people mention that JF used to play in the midfield, but his production was pretty lackluster. It‘s interesting but it doesn’t make sense. Its no different from the false 9 Gio, or Balo/Pepi two striker takes. Ferreira could beat out guys like Mihailovic to that 3rd choice attacking mid role IMO, but of course this assumes we play more of an attacking midfielder role in the future as opposed to the MMA midfield. Reyna is easily the best attacking midfielder, but behind him you have Aaronson and then it's kind of wide open. Balogun, Pepi, Sargent is probably the top 3 traditional striker options and Ferreira is probably 4th choice as someone who offers a different profile. With Balogun joining I'm not necessarily convinced that striker is easier to break into than attacking midfielder either. Fitting this mold, Ferreira looks great as a false 9 against teams we are superior to, but the role doesn't translate well against defenders who have better defensive positioning. As a lone striker he's more of a false 9 profile, which is a role that has been pretty hit and miss historically in terms of success except when truly elite players play it. That screams support striker in a two striker system or attacking midfielder much moreso than lone striker. He's not good in the air, he's not strong and capable of holding up play, but he has good off the ball movement and good passing. He was moved to regularly playing striker in 2022 after Pepi left out of necessity and he scored goals so he has remained there for Dallas because why change what's working for them?īut if you look at his physical profile he's just not a traditional striker. Attacking midfield isn't out of position for Ferreira historically, if you look at his first three MLS seasons he played attacking midfield much more than he played striker, it was his original position. ![]()
